# Andong Hahoe Folk Village Guide: Winter Hours, Fees, From Seoul

Andong Hahoe Folk Village is open all year, but from October to March it closes at 17:00 with last entry at 16:30. Adults pay KRW 5,000 (as of October 2026).

From Seoul, the KTX-Eum high-speed train reaches Andong Station in about 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours, and the village is a further bus ride away, so a late start can mean arriving after the gate closes. This guide shows how to get there, what the village costs, when the mask dance starts and how to use the 2 to 4 hours most visitors need, with every fact checked on October 27, 2026 against official sources.

Two ways to read this guide. If you are coming from Seoul for the day, read *From Seoul* first, because the winter closing time decides your train. If you already have a car or a room in Andong, go straight to *The mask dance* and *Plan 2 to 4 hours*.

Andong Hahoe Folk Village from Seoul: be in Andong by noon in winter

Map of South Korea with Andong Hahoe Folk Village marked, showing Korea's airports and main intercity bus terminals

The map pins Hahoe Village in inland Gyeongsangbuk-do, to the southeast of Seoul, which matches the train route from Seoul to Andong described below.

The village sets the clock for the whole trip. VisitKorea gives the winter hours and the last entry in one line:

[April-September] 09:00-18:00 (Last admission 17:30) / [October-March] 09:00-17:00 (Last admission 16:30) — VisitKorea, Andong Hahoe Village

Sources disagree on the winter closing time. One English travel blog and an older English page on the village's site say 18:00 from November to March. VisitKorea says 17:00, and the village's fee page agrees. The 18:00 village page also shows an adult fee of KRW 3,000, an earlier price, so this guide uses 17:00.

Winter day timeline for Hahoe Village: gate opens 09:00, mask dance 14:00 to 15:00 on show days, last entry 16:30, gate closes 17:00

Working backward from that, the village's own estimate of 2 to 4 hours (see *Plan 2 to 4 hours* below) means you want to be inside by about 13:00. The bus from Andong takes 40 to 50 minutes on the village's pages, so you should be at Andong Station around noon. This is our own arithmetic from the official figures, not an official recommendation.

By train and bus

  • Seoul to Andong Station: VisitKorea says to take the KTX-Eum from Seoul Station, Cheongnyangni Station or Sangbong Station, approximately 1 hour 50 minutes. Korail's notice for the January 2021 launch gave an average of 2 hours 3 minutes from Cheongnyangni, so plan for about two hours.
  • Which Seoul station: Korail said in December 2023 that 8 KTX-Eum trains a day (4 each way) would be extended from Cheongnyangni to Seoul Station. That notice does not say how the other trains run today, so check which station your train uses before you go.
  • Busan or Daegu: VisitKorea gives about 1 hour 40 minutes by KTX-Eum from Busan stations and about 1 hour 20 minutes from Dongdaegu Station by Mugunghwa train (a regular intercity train) or intercity bus.
  • Andong to the village: VisitKorea lists these buses for Hahoe Village: Express 2, 210, Pungcheon 2 and the Hahoe Shuttle Bus. The village's own older pages name buses 46 and 210. Only 210 appears on both lists, so confirm the number in the Andong Bus Information System (Korean only) or at the ticket office.

The village's English page describes the last leg like this:

Take the no.46 bus across of Ex Bus terminal to Hahoe village → Take the shuttle from parking area of Hahoe village. — Hahoe Village, Tourist Information

That page shows a copyright footer of 2002 to 2009, so treat the bus number as a clue, not as current. It gives the bus ride as 50 minutes (30 minutes by taxi). The preservation association's page says about 40 minutes, so allow 40 to 50 minutes. The village's older pages list a city-bus fare of KRW 1,200 to 1,300, and the association's timetable shows KRW 1,200, with KRW 1,650 marked for the seat-bus type (좌석).

Unverified: the current Korail fare and timetable, the last bus back to Andong and the last KTX-Eum back to Seoul, and the current fare and hours of the shuttle from the parking area. The Korail launch notice and VisitKorea do not give them. Check Korail for trains, the village phone +82-54-840-3795 for the shuttle, and look up the last bus before you enter the village.

What your arrival time means

The table uses the village's 40 to 50 minute bus ride and leaves out waiting for the bus, the walk from the station and the shuttle from the parking area, so real entry times will be later.

Arrive at Andong StationEnter the village, at the earliestWhat still fits
11:30 to 12:00about 12:10 to 12:50The 14:00 dance and a full walk
14:00about 14:40 to 14:50The end of the dance, then the lanes for about 2 hours
15:30about 16:10 to 16:20A short walk; last entry is 16:30
16:00 or laterafter 16:30No entry from October to March

If you are cutting it close, take the 15:30 row as a warning: a single missed bus puts you past 16:30.

By tour taxi

VisitKorea lists an Andong tourist taxi at KRW 125,000 for a 4-seater and KRW 300,000 for an 11-seater, for up to five hours within a 10-km radius of Andong Station, with a 2026 discount that may end early. The source does not say whether a trip to Hahoe Village fits that radius, so ask when you book at andongtourtaxi.com.

Hahoe Village admission: adults pay KRW 5,000, and parking is free

The fee table on the village's English page matches VisitKorea:

Individual: Adults 5,000 won / Teenagers 2,500 won / Children 1,500 won. Groups: Adults 4,000 won / Teenagers 2,000 won / Children 1,200 won. * Group: 30 or more people — VisitKorea, Andong Hahoe Village

The village's page defines a student as aged 13 to 18, and it lists free entry only for Koreans aged 65 or older. It lists no exemption for foreign visitors. Another English page on the same site shows an adult fee of KRW 3,000, which looks like an earlier version; this guide uses the VisitKorea values, which the other village page confirms.

You can also book online. The village's Korean homepage links an online booking service (온라인 예매), titled 안동하회마을 예약서비스 (Andong Hahoe Village reservation service). You pick a date, a time slot, a ticket type and the number of people, and an individual booking is paid online. A party of 20 or more is switched to a group booking, which is paid on site. The service is in Korean, and I found no page that makes advance booking compulsory. For help, call +82-54-840-3795.

The mask dance starts at 14:00 on most days, but not on Mondays

The Hahoe Byeolsingut Talnori Preservation Association, which holds the national intangible heritage of this mask dance, publishes the regular schedule. The venue is the village's mask dance stage (하회마을 탈춤공연장).

Translated: From March to December, every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 14:00 to 15:00 (1 hour). Original (Korean): 3월 ~ 12월 : 매주 화·수·목·금·토·일요일 14:00~15:00 (1시간) — Hahoe Byeolsingut Talnori Preservation Association

In January and February the same page lists only Saturday and Sunday, 14:00 to 15:00. That means there is no regular show on Mondays from March to December. The page does not show a date, so confirm the day you plan to go at +82-54-840-3795.

The 14:00 start sits inside the winter day. If you walk in at 13:00, you have time to find the stage, watch for one hour, and still have until 17:00 for the lanes. If you arrive at 15:40, the show is over.

Plan 2 to 4 hours in the village, and about 4 if you stay for the dance

The village's official FAQ answers the question most day-trippers ask:

Translated: It varies greatly from person to person. You basically have to walk through the village, and there are more houses than you might expect, so it takes about 2 to 4 hours. Original (Korean): 2~4시간 정도 소요됩니다 — Hahoe Village, FAQ

That FAQ was posted in 2009, when the show ran at weekends. It says to prepare about 4 hours in total to include the 14:00 dance, and says that adding Buyongdae Cliff and Byeongsan Seowon (a Confucian academy outside the village) needs more time. Treat the figures as the village's own rule of thumb, and use the dance days above for today's show times.

Two other places are close enough to mention:

  • Hahoe Mask Museum (하회세계탈박물관): VisitKorea says it is located in Hahoe Village and shows masks from around the world alongside Hahoe masks. The museum is free and open 09:30 to 18:00, closed on January 1, Seollal (Lunar New Year's Day) and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving Day). Its phone number is +82-54-853-2288. The museum stays open an hour after the village gate closes, so confirm that you can reach it after 17:00.
  • Buyongdae Cliff (부용대): VisitKorea calls it one of the best places to see the whole village, which looks like a lotus flower floating on water. The village FAQ says to leave the village and cross Gwangdeok Bridge to reach it. One travel blog describes a small wooden ferry across the river, but no official page lists a ferry, so ask at the village before you rely on it. Unverified: opening hours and walking time. Ask at the village phone above.

Help in English and getting around with a wheelchair or stroller

English guiding is limited. The village FAQ says resident cultural interpreters are available but take bookings only online, 7 days ahead, and only for groups.

Translated: The village has resident cultural tourism interpreters. Guiding is booked online only, 7 days in advance, and is provided to groups only. Original (Korean): 7일전에 신청, 단체에 한하여 안내를 제공합니다 — Hahoe Village, FAQ

If you are travelling alone or as a couple, you can still ask questions by phone. The village's English page lists an Explanation and Interpretation Desk for Tourists at +82-54-840-6974, and the Hahoe Village Tourist Information Center at +82-54-852-3588. The Korea Tourism Organization runs the 1330 Korea Travel Hotline for transportation inquiries and interpretation services, according to VisitKorea's FAQ.

For mobility, the village FAQ says strollers and wheelchairs are available on site free of charge. That entry dates from 2009, so call +82-54-840-3795 before you travel with a wheelchair. No official page describes the slope, surface or walking distance, so the guide does not either.

FAQ

Is Hahoe Village open on Mondays?

Yes. VisitKorea lists the village as open all year round, with no closing day. The regular mask dance does not run on Mondays from March to December.

Can I visit Hahoe Village as a day trip from Seoul in winter?

Yes, if you reach Andong Station around noon. The KTX-Eum takes about 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours, the bus 40 to 50 minutes, and the village closes at 17:00 with last entry at 16:30. Check the last bus and train back before you go.

Can I buy tickets online?

Yes. The village's Korean homepage links a reservation service where you choose a date, time slot, ticket type and number of people, and pay online. Groups of 20 or more pay on site. I found no page that makes it compulsory.

Is entry free for older visitors from abroad?

No exemption is listed. The village's fee page lists free entry only for Koreans aged 65 or older, and discounted fees for Andong citizens.

Can I add Buyongdae Cliff on the same day?

Possibly, if you start early. The village says to exit and cross Gwangdeok Bridge, and VisitKorea recommends the cliff for its view of the village. No official page gives its hours or the walking time, so ask at +82-54-840-3795 before you go.

Before you go: checklist

  • Be at Andong Station around noon. The village closes at 17:00 from October to March, with last entry at 16:30.
